What is Lip Blush?A semi-permanent cosmetic procedure that enhances the beauty of your natural shape, corrects asymmetry, gives more definition and the illusion of fullness by depositing pigment into the lips. Lip Blush tattoo typically lasts between 1-3 years depending on various factors such as skin type, lifestyle, and aftercare.
-
Can I choose my colour?Yes, you certainly can! Lip blush is 100% tailored to the individual based on your desired results. The colour can be as subtle or as vibrant as you like! A follow up session is required 6-8 weeks post initial appointment, due to the way the body reacts to and retains pigment, to ensure the colour is just right for you.
-
Benefits of Lip BlushLong lasting lip colour Increased pigmentation for pale and ageing lips Fuller looking lips Enhanced lip symmetry and refined lip shape Colour correction for scars and uneven pigmentation
-
Lip Blush & Dermal FillerIt is perfectly fine to get both lip blush and filler together. It is important to keep in mind that you must have had your lip filler completed at least 4 weeks prior to your lip blush appointment to prevent any migration. If you proceed with lip filler after your appointment, it is advised you wait 2 weeks post lip blush treatment. This is to ensure that the lips have the right amount of healing time to prevent any potential reactions.
-
How many sessions are required?Depending on desired results, generally an initial session and a perfecting session (6-8 weeks post initial treatment) are required. Like most cosmetic tattoo procedures, very rarely do clients heal perfectly from 1 session alone.
-
Does Lip Tattooing hurt?A topical anaesthetic (numbing) is applied prior to and during the procedure to assist in minimising any discomfort. Some clients have even fallen asleep during treatment, so don't panic!
-
Healing ProcessThe colour is always vibrant & intense directly after the session, however when this heals it will become up to 80% lighter in a weeks time. The entire healing process usually takes 1-2 weeks. During this time you can expect some swelling, tenderness and peeling. Avoid activities such as swimming, hot tubs & saunas.
-
What is Neutralisation?A specialised treatment series for those with cool or melanin rich lips (brown, purple, blue). The aim is to use colour theory technique to even out the lips. To neutralise the pigmentation on the lips we will need to use a warm colour in the first session. This will heal and correct the dark areas. Once your lips are completely healed, we are then able to apply the desired colour at the touch up session. Depending on the level of hyperpigmentation, a minimum of two sessions is required. This is a semi-permanent procedure & will fade over time, touch ups are required to maintain the result. The colour will heal up to 60% lighter than the result on the day of treatment, we must make the pigment mixture vibrant, so it is strong enough to heal well. It is very common for neutralisation clients to experience hyperpigmentation for 1-2 weeks post appointment and will begin to lighten from 4 weeks post lip blush.

Preparing for your AppointmentDrink plenty of water - keeping hydrated prior to treatment will leave your lips plump which will result in greater colour retention. Moisturise and exfoliate the night before your appointment so your lips are smooth and perfect to work on. Sugar scrubs and lip masks are a perfect combination! No caffeine and/or alcohol - you must not consume caffeine prior to or after your appointment, as it is a natural blood thinner. This will result in excessive bleeding and swelling which can be very uncomfortable for you during the procedure. No blood thinning medication - aspirin, midol, exedrin, NASAIDs (Advil, Motrin, Naproxen & Aleve). 'Time of the month' - if you are currently on your period or heading towards that time of the month, you may experience high sensitivity and require more caution. Photos of your lips - please send through clear photos in natural light prior to your appointment so I can assess the condition of your lips. Bring in your favourite lipstick or liner if you have a specific colour you’re wanting to achieve.

ContraindicationsLip Blushing is not for everyone! Please see my full post on contraindications for cosmetic tattooing before booking. PSA – You cannot have this treatment if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
-
Important Pre-CareDiscontinue any vitamin A skin care products (Retin-A, retinols) close to the enhancement area at least two weeks prior to your procedure. Discontinue use of AHA (chemical exfoliation) skin care products close to the area to be tattooed at least one week prior to your procedure. No laser or electrolysis on or around the treatment area one week prior to procedure. Do not have any chemical peels, dermabrasions, mesotherapy, or any other intense treatments which will cause faster skin cell rejuvenating and cause skin irritation 3-4 weeks before procedure. If you have been on prescription Accutane in the past, you MUST wait at least one year before considering this procedure. It is highly recommended that you avoid SUN and TANNING BED exposure for 30 days BEFORE and AFTER your procedure. If you show up for your appointment with a new tan or a sunburn, you will need to reschedule and will forfeit your booking fee. As your skin exfoliates from a sunburn, it will take the pigment with it.

What's normal after Lip Blush?Swelling, Itching, Scabbing, light bruising, and dry tightness. Ice packs are a nice relief for swelling and bruising. Aftercare balm is great for scabbing and tightness. Too dark and slightly uneven appearance. After 2-7 days the darkness will fade and once swelling dissipates, unevenness usually disappears. If they are too dark or still a bit uneven after 4 weeks, then we will make adjustments during the touch up appointment. Colour change or colour loss. As the procedure area heals the colour will lighten and sometimes seem to disappear. This can all be addressed during the touch up appointment and is why the touch up is necessary. The procedure area must be completely healed before we can address any concerns. This takes at least 6 weeks. Needing a touch up months or years later. A touch up may be needed 1 to 4 years after the initial procedure depending on your skin, medications, and sun exposure. We recommend a touch up 6-8 weeks after the first session and every few years to keep them looking fresh and beautiful.
-
The ProcessSwelling will subside within 1-2 days. Lips will feel dry from days 3-7 (do not pick the skin, please allow it to naturally flake off). Be patient, it takes 6-8 weeks for the colour to completely develop. The colour will heal up to 50% lighter and will last for 1-3 years.
